Dental Crowns in Naples, FL
Dental Crowns
A damaged or decayed tooth affects more than your appearance. It can cause pain when eating, make speaking difficult, and leave you feeling self-conscious about your smile. When a tooth is too compromised for a simple filling but doesn’t need to be removed, a dental crown provides the protection and restoration you need.
At Advanced Prosthodontics and Implants Esthetics, Dr. Randold Binns and Dr. Eugenio Aquino use labs to create custom crowns but make temporary crowns in-house for Naples patients who need durable, natural-looking tooth restoration. Our practice has served Southwest Florida for 40 years with prosthodontic care designed to restore both function and appearance. We provide treatment in English and Spanish, making quality dental restoration accessible throughout the Naples community.

When You Might Need a Crown
Crowns can strengthen teeth with large cavities when there isn’t enough of the healthy tooth to hold the filling. They can also be used to attach dental bridges or protect weakened or broken teeth. These restorations cover the entire visible portion of a tooth above the gum line, essentially creating a new outer surface.
Your tooth structure beneath the crown remains in place, but the crown provides the strength and protection the weakened tooth needs. This allows you to keep your natural tooth root rather than extracting the tooth entirely. Many situations call for crown treatment:
Severe Decay or Large Cavities
When decay has affected too much of the tooth structure, a filling won’t provide adequate strength. The remaining tooth walls might be too thin to support normal chewing forces. A crown covers and protects the entire tooth, distributing bite pressure evenly across a stronger restoration.
Cracked or Broken Teeth
Teeth can crack from injury, grinding, or simply from years of use. A crown holds the tooth together and prevents the crack from worsening. Without this protection, a cracked tooth often breaks further, potentially requiring extraction.
Restoring Dental Implants
When a dental implant replaces a missing tooth, the crown is the visible portion that looks and functions like your natural tooth. Prosthodontists receive extensive training in implant restoration, ensuring proper fit, function, and appearance.
How Prosthodontists Approach Crown Treatment
Our additional three years of training beyond dental school focused on restoring and replacing teeth. This advanced education shapes how we design crowns, select materials, and plan your treatment. While general dentists certainly provide crown treatment, prosthodontic training brings additional considerations to every case.
We evaluate your bite alignment, jaw movement, the forces your teeth experience during chewing, and how each tooth interacts with surrounding teeth. These factors determine crown shape, contour, and the materials we select. This attention to biomechanics helps ensure your crown lasts for many years.
Dr. Binns is particularly known throughout Southwest Florida for creating restorations with both technical precision and natural appearance. Every crown we design aims to blend seamlessly with your existing teeth while providing reliable function. This combination of strength and appearance comes from prosthodontic training in both the science and art of dental restoration.
The Crown Process
Creating a crown typically requires two appointments. At your first visit, we prepare the tooth by removing damaged structure and shaping it to receive the crown. We take detailed impressions of the prepared tooth and surrounding teeth. These impressions guide the creation of your custom crown.
You’ll receive a temporary crown while your permanent restoration is being made. This temporary crown protects the prepared tooth and maintains normal function and appearance between appointments. Once your permanent crown is ready, you’ll return for placement. We check the fit, adjust the bite as needed, and permanently cement the crown in place.
Modern materials allow us to create crowns from several options. Porcelain crowns provide the most natural appearance and work particularly well for front teeth. Porcelain fused to metal combines strength with good appearance. All-ceramic crowns offer both durability and beauty without any metal. We’ll discuss which material best suits your specific situation.
Metal-Free Restorations
Many Naples patients prefer restorations without metal. Modern ceramic materials provide excellent strength while looking completely natural. These metal-free options work well throughout your mouth, from front teeth where appearance matters most to back teeth that handle heavy chewing forces.
Metal-free crowns allow light to pass through them similarly to natural tooth enamel. This translucency contributes to a more realistic appearance. The crown edges blend smoothly with your natural tooth structure, making the restoration virtually undetectable.
Making Treatment Accessible
Quality dental crowns represent an investment in your oral health, but our practice works to make prosthodontic care accessible to Naples-area patients. We partner with three healthcare financing companies offering flexible payment solutions. CareCredit provides six months of interest-free financing for qualified patients. Cherry offers competitive rates and approves many patients with varying credit situations. Proceed handles larger treatment plans with financing up to $70,000.
We operate as a fee-for-service practice, which means we select materials and techniques based on what works best for your situation rather than insurance company restrictions. However, we understand many patients carry dental insurance. We process benefits on behalf of all PPO providers and file claims to help you receive maximum coverage. Most PPO plans provide out-of-network benefits, and we’ll work with you to understand your coverage.
